Icon meme from [livejournal.com profile] mumblemutter:

1) Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2) Make a post and talk about the icons I chose.
3) Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4) This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!

Hi yes. that is Lisa Loeb right there on my icon, yes. hello.

Some notes regarding Lisa Loeb:
1. I used to own that horridly pink-covered album of hers.
1.1. It was the first cd ever I thought about actually throwing in the bin. (I gave it away to a friend instead.)
1.2. I still know all the lyrics by heart.
2. I never met a cooking show I truly didn't like until Dweezil and Lisa.
2.1. I watched most of Dweezil and Lisa.
2.2. One likes to refer to Dweezil and Lisa as the Newlyweds for the Lisa generation, but actually I suspect that there's a not unsignificant overlap between people who used to listen to Lisa Loeb very earnestly and people who would watch Newlyweds "ironically"; enough times of listening to "Jake" will do that to you.
3. When Dweezil and Lisa called it quits, you might have thought that maybe Lisa would grow a beard and concentrate on her music now, but, no, she went on to make Number One Single.
3.1. Lisa goes on blind dates! Lisa gets set up with idiots! Lisa gets stood up! Lisa gets stood up again! Lisa is perky and annoying and scary while being stood up! Also while not getting stood up! LISA WILL NEVER FIND LOVE, BUT, BY GOD, SHE IS READY TO DIE TRYING.
3.2. I watched most of Number One Single.
3.3. My reality tv embarrassment squick has never really recovered from the experience.
3.4 The Loebmeister at a single dog-owners' mixer, trying to woo a terrified fella by telling him she prefers cats, and you thinking at his deer-in-the-headlights face, "well, go on, then, boy. You'd tap that. I'd tap that."
4. Most of my stories about me and Lisa Loeb will be titled the time between meeting and finally leaving.
4.1. is sometimes called falling in love

"There's probably a medical term for what you're going through," he says.

"I know," she says.

She's watching the icons as they gallop across the field. The electric sky above them shimmers as if it were simply unable to contain it all.

The thing I especially like about this particular pic is how, if you don't look too closely, she nearly looks like just another respectable singer-songwriter. (The keywords say (roughly and with some misgrammar) NOTICE ME LOVE ME; capslock implied.)

In the late autumn of 2006, I spent half a week in Stockholm trying to tell [livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch and [livejournal.com profile] gatefiction that Bones is really just an elaborate AU of Angel the Series. I'm still pretty sure I'm right about that.

Anyway, I love the colours on this one. They're very strange and unusual to me, but I do love them a little, or quite a lot, even. It's so pretty!

Surprise!lesbians. The cap is from Producing Adults, the 2004 domestic flick I've been known to force innocent by-standers to watch with me. But it's a cute one, right? and it's not so often I like a domestic movie. (We make lots and lots of movies about war, mostly, I guess. I did, though, like last year's Suden vuosi, and I have the DVD to shove down your throat prove it.)

And do you know, sometimes I like to imagine domestic filmmakers and actors discussing movies in my head: they all sound like Kaurismäki characters.

The icon itself, though - my lack of icon-making skillz, let me show you it.

So, you know, going on I don't know how many years now, I've been (I am) listening to an audiobook of Mika Waltari's Sinuhe egyptiläinen at night whenever I have trouble falling asleep (which is most nights); it's, really, my fandom (of one) steady, these days. Also a big slashy romp. (Though it recently occurred to me that OMG SPOILERZ AHEAD Akhenaten/Sinuhe = surprise!brothercest. Liek, srsly, after years of listening to the book, it only just recently occurred to me. For further reference, see all the other times in other fandoms I've gone, "you know, X and Y would be hot together! ... ... right, forgot about the bit where they turn out to be related." erm. Yay Luke/Leia?) This would be my icon for that fandom.

... only the pic is actually from a poster for the 1954 Hollywood movie they made based on the book. Which is a really, really bad movie. Gene Tierney's in it? And Jean Simmons? And Peter Ustinov? And some really weird make-up? And it was directed by Michael Curtiz? But it's a bad movie. Really bad. Please don't see it. (Unless you're drunk maybe. It might be better then.) (As for whether I'd recommend you read the book, IDK. The English translation is pretty heavily abridged, and I have no idea how that's affected what's left in there. A new edition of the translation came out a couple of years ago, I think, but please to note that the "unabridged" on the cover refers to its being the old abridged version with no further abridgment (WTF?).)

Wrt: keywords: what keywords would you use for an icon representing an arbitrarily chosen cornerstone of domestic literary canon? Yeah.

There's something oddly, perversely pleasing about the fact that my only BtVS icon is from "Killed by Death".

Ahem.

Also, another fine example of the high quality icons I make. Man. Seriously, if anyone with a better eye for these things would like to tell me what, precisely, is so off about my cropping here, I'd really love to hear it; I can see something is off, but I have no idea what it is. (That being said, I am very happy with the colours of this one, too, just because they happen to be the sort of colours that make me happy. So there.)

Keywords say, "no smoking". Or, "smoking forbidden". And we're not overjoyed.

It's my Ultra Bra icon! Which [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow made! For me! <3! Featuring some members of Ultra Bra! With keywords from an Ultra Bra song! <3 <3! *dies of [hart]*

And 7.

[by [livejournal.com profile] groaty; keywords: oh fandom]

... also much <3. If I remember correctly, [livejournal.com profile] groaty made a whole series of stick-figure comics explaining slash and related phenomena, once upon a time. (I'd link, but I can't find it right now. Sorry. They were very hilarious. This I know I remember correctly.) Also, if I remember correctly, this bit came from one explaining brothercest in particular. But I've frequently found it applicable to nearly every thing in fandom. Funny, that.

I've seen those stick figure comics explaining slash. Funnier than the Potterpuffs, some of them.

Right. Try me, then. Choose wisely!

ahaah, I'm glad that someone recognizes the sentiment!! (Oh, Miss Lisa, I hate you so much, if this were romantic comedy instead of life, we'd be MFEO.)

The only thing I know about Lisa Loeb is that she had this song about missing someone that was featured on that movie with the guy who was also in that other movie, and that I watched that music video about a million times back when MTV still played music videos it came out, thinking, "this outfit shouldn't work, but it does, god I love that outfit, I wish I could wear tight-fitting green leather-velvet, I'd wear that so hard." Also, come to think of it now, "I'd probably tap that."

I had no idea she went on to be scary on TV.

Personally, I think she was always pretty scary (listening to an album of hers from start to finish in one sitting = trauma for life? possibly). But TV gave her awesome opportunities for showcasing the scary, scary cutesy perkiness, this is true.

That being said, I know the outfit you're talking about, though (alas? fortunately?) I can't remember which song that was, and, yes. yes indeed.

Stay! (I Missed You (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ka9mCmx9Jhs))

Man I loved that song. I still love that outfit. I am intrigued now and should possibly download an album of hers. Hmmmmm.
