The meme of picking 20 songs on random with the help of your media player of choice and letting others guess from the lyrics! was mentioned on the friendslist, and I've always thought that a good enough reason to do it. Again. Every time. (And you too! You do it too! Do it, too.) I couldn't catch sleep yet, so here, here, iTunes will have it so:

1. now talking to god is laurel begging hardy for a gun - josh ritter, girl in the war; guessed by [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy
2. turns out i was a vampire myself - tony lucca, devil town; by [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy and [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow
3. he's got a woman at home he's got another woman down the hall / he seems to want me anyway
4. and a sun that doesn't set but settles
5. oily marks appear on walls where pleasure moments hung
6. is it a dream? is it a lie? i think i'll let you decide
7. this is a song about anyone, it could be anyone - lily allen, knock 'em out; by [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow and [livejournal.com profile] adventurat
8. you're my desire / the woman i require / i just changed my tire
9. she was right in the rain of the bullets that eventually brought her down
10. just something i knew i had to do / but through it all i kept my eyes on you
11. a much up-dated ruin from a much out-dated style
12. sick and tired of trying to save the world / i just wanna spend my time with you, girl
13. if fashion is your trade, then when you're naked i guess you must be unemployed
14. you know, i feel so dirty when they start talking cute - rick springfield, jesse's girl; by [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy and [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow and [livejournal.com profile] adventurat
15. someone controlled you / they bought and sold you - the beatles, while my guitar gently weeps; by [livejournal.com profile] adventurat
16. is history recorded? does someone have a tape?
17. oh how your bubble's gonna burst when you meet another nurse (she'll be driving in a hearse) - april march, chick habit; by [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow
18. i'm not dumb but i can't understand why she walks like a woman and talks like a man - the raincoats, lola; by just about everybody, except for the bit that it wasn't the kinks version, which was arguably unguessable
19. drop to my knees to elicit crowd response - da vinci's notebook, title of the song; by [livejournal.com profile] mumblemutter
20. the t-shirt says shoot pool, not people / kill time, not life

PS. Why does one these songs come up every time I do this?

PS2. As usual, cheated in randomizing by skipping: songs with no lyrics; songs with lyrics in languages other than English; songs by Lush the lyrics to which I couldn't understand even after much much concentrated listening.

Jesus Christ, the only song I even remotely recognize is #19 ("...modulation and I hold a high noooooooooote!"), but I'm intrigued by some of the others. *watches this thread*

Title of the comment indeed!

1. yes!
2. yes, the tony lucca version!
3. yes!
4. yes! (esp. since there is no way of telling from the lyrics that mine was actually a cover by the raincoats).

because it's the best meme EVER. \o/

2. bright eyes/fanfarlo/tony lucca - devil town

(okay, if you don't have the fanfarlo version of this song, HERE IT IS (http://www.box.net/shared/k353fetxqp). this version was the first i heard of it; i didn't even know it was a cover, and i wasn't prepared for it at all. i got chills at "didn't know they were vampires" and then chills x 100000 at "turns out i was a vampire myself" because O.O)

7. lily allen - knock 'em out
14. rick springfield - jesse's girl
17. april march - chick habit
18. the kinks - lola

2. tony lucca. and thank you so much for the download!
7. yes!
14. also yes!
17. also yes! (i wanted to list all the rhymes in my lyrics pick, i'm so amused by them. um.)
18. yes, because, as i said to [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy above, there is nothing in the lyrics that would actually signal that what i have is the raincoats cover version.
