save the innocents
Nov. 20th, 2002 08:02 pmAll over the city today, tiny stickers saying "Stop FPS!" and I. of course.
And,
I stopped by at the clothes store for no reason except procrastinating and turned into a girl and, please, will someone throw a fancy party over the holidays and invite me, please, because I need a reason to own this pretty silvery-grey thing of sleekness, and I already have the perfect shoes for it.
And, do you know, a lot of days I really love our language (my language) a lot, because it's beautiful, fluid, systematic and strange. Sharp and clear and flexible. And then English - I prod and I prod and prod but it will not bend to my will or cooperate or be a friend; I suspect it can tell (sly thing) that I'm not its rightful Mistress...
Edit. Postcard on my notice board: snippet from Saarikoski - damned if I can translate this at all, but - "They say about languages that they are mastered, but you can't master languages, they master you. You have one language, one wife and one ruler that changes shape."
Oh my, oh my. I haven't a talent for seriousness, Susie.
