I know some of you kids are all versed up in Cold Case, so tell me: that one guy person, Valens or whatever he's called, is he a delicious bundle of barely contained conflict and confusion and fragile identities underneath, or is that just an effect of the facial expression the actor uses to signal "paying attention from the background"? I've seen four-ish eps so far and can't decide. Also, if the former, where is the fiiiic?

Yeah... he's a *good* subtle character. He has a lot of problems with his girlfriend - I'm not sure you've got to that point yet, but it's a really nice dimension to his personality. And he's so pretty.

Yeah, that was part of my problem - I couldn't tell whether he was really filled with hidden depths or whether I just wanted him to be, for the pretty. But I trust your judgement...

(I think we're more or less past addressing the girlfriend issue, though - mostly I'm getting all these vibes from the way every case-related issue makes him look like there's something going on on the inside. In a way that screams, GEN FIC GOLD, which is why it's sad that I can't find anything to read.)

Yeah - I think the actor has a way of looking like he's thinking. and then he comes out with something surprising which is evidence that something has been going on in his head. He just looks like there's stuff going on.

And it's definitely not because he's pretty - because pretty guys don't usually attract me. I need substance.
