PS, here's a really pathetic question. Suppose I sort of, hm, walked into my bathroom sink and banged my knee against it and made it crack. Sort of. Perhaps sort of repeatedly. And suppose I really couldn't afford a new sink & the works right now, or in the foreseeable future. Do we know of anything I could do in order to keep the crack from, you know, killing the sink dead? Hm. I'll have to look into it. Also, why does this never happen to other people?

I suppose you have strong knees.

I think it's all the practice they're getting every. single. day. of my life. But, also, I'd like to think it wasn't the most sturdy of sinks to begin with. I'd like to.

um, wow, like, yeah, hmmmm.... register your knees;)

oh, hush, they're my secret weapon.

walked into my bathroom sink and banged my knee against it and made it crack.

I expected this to be a medical question, not a plumbing one! Depending on where the crack is - inside the bowl or not part of the water-holding part at all - you might be OK not doing anything at all. If it absolutely needs to be mended so the sink doesn't leak, I think Silicone caulking might be in order.

Like I said to Tine, I'd like to think the sink is pretty frail as far as sinks go. The knee was just bruised to death. Repeatedly.

But, thank you!! for the tip. Now I know what to ask for when I go talk to the people in the know. (The crack being smack in the middle of the bowl, and possibly all the way through. How did I manage that?)

Sounds like faulty manufacturing to me. Sinks shouldn't crack under the impact of anything covered with flesh.

faulty manufacturing

or maybe the fact that it's old. old-ish.

When I started reading, I thought I would offer you my crutches...maybe not. But Ow! I'd go with Wendy's idea of a silicone caulking stuff.

Ow indeed, but then again, it's what I do for a living. Getting bruised. Except they're completely failing to pay me for it. And also, thank you! Silicone caulking sounds impressive enough to ask for at the hardware store.
