yeah, that slash survey, because i should have been at work ages ago.

Teh Big Slash meme
Read and/or write?um. read.
Since when?2000-ish?
How did you stumble into slash?well, i was reading this willow/angel story that took a turn towards willow/angel/spike, one day, and - (i really can't remember).
Your first fandom and pairing:slash-wise, probably btvs and angel/spike *omgdead*
The first person you told about your new hobby:slash was never much of a "new hobby" for me - just an extension of the old - so there was no big telling abouts about. but, jennifer? statistically likely..
The fandoms you read:popslash, and many others.
The fandoms you write:the da vinci code, baby!
Your favourite pairings:i like lambs. and timbertrick. and buffy/faith and wesley/gunn because they're still the everlasting slash otps of my soul. or not. but some days they are.
Favourite genres:metafic, darkfic, comedy, experimental drama, magical realism, drabbles, and, is there anything else left?
Least favourite pairings:eh. it all depends on the story, at that point.
Least favourite genres:hurt/comfort, pointlessly angsty/mushy mush. and, uh, songfic?
What makes a story good?style; good characterization - characterization that you can sell, anyway; a point, a vision, a something; personality; lack of excessively bad grammar.
What makes a story bad?bad writing?
The best author:OMG. there are so many, and also i don't do bests. but i can send you a long, detailed list of my favourites if you ask.
Why?because OMG the fandom is horribly distractingly full of excellent writing, along with all the devastatingly bad.
The best story you've ever read:see above.
The worst author:probably someone i've not even read yet.
Why?because somehow the badness always takes me by surprise.
The worst story you've ever read:one of my own, i'm sure.
The best story you have written:best slash story? since i'm going to say none of my unfinished ones count, there's just the davincicode 15-minute piece and the old ats fic of doom to choose from, and i'm going to go out on a limb and say the ats one was probably better. at least it was edited. but the slash was only implied. mainly it was het.
The worst story you have written:slash story? there's only the davincicode piece left, now. (but i have astonishing amounts of bad drawerfic in my drawers. like, if i die suddenly? please let no one go through my drawers. because i want to retain the illusion that i wasn't as bad at it as i was, you know?)
Do you leave feedback?rarely. maybe too rarely - but often i don't see the point when i have nothing intelligent to say. because, yo, people don't want feedback that's all wrong, no matter what they say.
Do you get feedback?there's nothing to get feedback on.
Do you have a favorite kink?hm. i sometimes find bitterly twisted-up emotions and such quite hot, but not exclusively. and and. no, i'm all vanilla.
Does something squick you?not many things, but ishy hurt/comfort, yeah.
Is slash simply sex?uh, no?
Is slash a way of life?for me? hardly. (it might be for other people, i wouldn't know.)
How much time do you spend reading/writing?depends on how much time i have free to spend on it, so the amount varies wildly.
Do you have RL friends who slash?none i didn't initally meet online.
Have you made online friends through slash?hm. i would say i've made online friends through fandom, but not necessarily through just slash in particular.
Do you think slash is just a phase?not really. i mean, i'm not saying i'll necessarily be at it when i'm 62 years old and have three cats, but it's not something one needs to get through or past or so, the way phases tend to be.
Could you simply stop slashing?could i simply stop hanging out in the slash circles online / reading slash / similar? probably yes, if i had to - i don't know that i'd want to, at the moment. could i stop viewing the world through the slash goggles at this point? simply stop? probably not.
What do you think about...
Ratings G to PG-13yay.
Ratings R to NC-17yay.
AUsyes, please.
ARsyes, please.
Crackficsis it good crack? because bad crackfic is just bad fic. good crackfic, otoh, has its time and place.
Pornsure. ideally not wholly gratuitous, but -
Angstwithin limits. ideally not wholly gratuitous.
Mushonly when i'm in the mood.
Loveis a many splendoured thing.
Romanceas long as it's interesting.
BDSMwhen it has a point, sure.
Darkficssure.
Deathficsman, i have nothing against the idea, but are they ever any good?
Non consensual/rapedepends, depends, depends.
Rape recovery*gag* hi, hello, you've just stumbled onto leea's remaining squick.
FPSis like candy.
RPSis like chocolate-chip cookies.
RPGnot really my cuppa.
First timesyeah, baby. i mean, it gets old, but then again, sometimes i like it getting old.
Established relationshipsdepends on the pairing.
Threesomesgo, you wacky thing, you.
m/m slashis fun.
femmeslashthere should be more of it.
Slashing a children's book/moviego for it!
Chanslash not necessarily my thing, but it doesn't bother me, either.
Explicit sexas long as it's not boring. sometimes it is. but sometimes it isn't.
The importance of charactarizationgreat, though i have to say - (at least in some fandoms) i'm more likely to forgive a well-written story for slightly shaky characterization than a well-characterized story for clunkety-clunky writing.
OOCnessgah. (for details, see above.)
Canonyay!
Fanoncan sometimes be irritating and interesting simultaneously. also, i think, often inescapable in fic - even if you're not confroming to it, as it were.
Clichesare but food for invention.
Supernaturalyummy.
MPREGyeah, baby! (but only if it's blair that's having jim's baby, and not the other way around.)
Wingficsthere is many a very good one out there, so, yes.
Genderfuckyes, please.
Crossoversyes, please.
Group Slut Ficswhere? where? i am clapping my hands in excitement already.
Incestsee, yeah, it's a multi-faceted issue, but on the whole, i'm fine with it in principle and personally like reading it in some cases.
May/Decemberyes, please.
Het pairings in a slash ficas long as you avoid the worst of the cliches. or even if you don't. no need to do het warnings or such.
Plotwould be lovely, though there are cases when it's just not the most essential thing. no, really.
PWPswell, i read them, so.
WIPsalmost never read, these days, though there have been a few notable exceptions. lordy, the old fandom was all about the wip, and i think half of us burned out on the concept thanks to that. or not, maybe just me.
LJ fics and communitiesyay!!
Mailing listsam on exactly one fandom-related list atm. one.
Big Name Fansaren't really a more homogenous group than any other subsection of fen, as far as i can tell.
Politics in a slash storyas long as they're not stupid politics that annoy me. *g*
Religion in a slash storyyeah, again, not really my thing, but there are some really good fics out there where the description fits.
Wake up Gaywas amusing for about 5 minutes, but that's still, like, 4 and a half minutes better than most things.
And finally....
Your pet peeve:that foreign language thing.
Your advice to new slashers:... - ....
Your slash wish list:some lambs. some timbertrick. shortish, so i have time to read them all the way through in one sitting. and then some sarah waters fic, and then i'll be happy. please use spellcheck.
The best slash archive:i never really read archives.
The worst slash archive:and the trouble with the "worst" is, at some point, it always goes round to so bad it's amusing, and then the badness just loses its sting, you know?
