For lunch today, heated up home-made frozen lasagnette, in manner of domestic goddess cum single urban academic person w/ wonderfully hectic schedule. Made for somewhat embarrassing singed mess; had to remind self that frozen lasagnette essentially not frying pan type food but rather of the microwaveables family, so poor results not to be blamed on own supposed inadequacies as cook but on lack of proper modern-day utilities in apartment.

Then sat down for a half an hour to read favourite bits of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, after which crawled into bed, and spent an hour and a half listening semi-consciously to rain hitting window in gusts and neighbours arguing on the other side of wall, as well as alternating between fantasies about chocolate ice-cream and particularly lucid hallucinations about tiny iron-grilled sewers getting built in my gums. Obviously, got no studying done all afternoon, but otherwise was lovely. Actually felt a bit renewed when had finally gotten up and had a cig and a cup of coffee.

OF THE GOOD:
Little American lecturer intoxicatingly pouring ready-made poetry interpretation into our empty hungry heads.
Mixed metaphors.

OF THE NOT:
This paranoia. This paranoia. Nightmares about cucumbers rotting in my fridge. (Not that kind of metaphors.) Up-coming Saturday: I've never quite figured out what I'm supposed to do at funerals of people I had no personal connection with. This paranoia.

But now. intend to study like maniac, then finish off the day by reading some of Forró rágógumi, the Hungarian translation of the Lloyd-Rees magnum opus Come Together. There's terrible comfort in the shallow waters.

PS. Yet another lit Nobel-prize winner I've never even heard of. Oh the suckitude of me!

Karius & Baktus! The power of Egner is not to be denied.

Also, who *has* heard of the new nobel laureate? At least it's a female this year...

OMG I had no idea it was such a Manifestation of the Collective Subconscious. Excellent.

Um, the Nobel Prize committee? Or, hm, at least whoever they put in charge of finding someone to finding a woman to give the prize to for a change so they won't have to worry about that again for another few years now?

(Did a bit of looking around and turns out that have, after all, seen the movie they made based on one of her books. And, hated the movie with passion, but not blaming the writer for it (yet).)
