A strangely film-noirish dream last night, one of the guys in my study group was married and cheating on his wife with me in a very bleak and dysfunctional way and the wife was somewhat pissed off and stalked me and then it turned out (I think) that the two of them had been just playing me all along in order to frame me for drug trafficking or some such offense and then kill me dead. Which was all rather nasty to the extent that when I sat next to the person in question in class today, I felt half like hiding in the corner and half like stabbing him with my ballpoint pen. Like any stable and reasonable human being would, see.

I like polls. Do more polls, peeps. They tickle my toes in the good way. Also, rec me something - a fic, a book, a movie, a band, a magazine, a livejournal, (edit. it says "or" here. but if you're feeling rec-happy and wish it said "and" instead!! i won't slap you. unless you're into that stuff.) a theory on why the universe is the way it is - and I'll rec something back at you, if you want. Because I have no life and am bored, see.

Here are my recs:

Kiss Me, You're Irish (http://boudicca.com/unaware/irish.html) by [livejournal.com profile] glockgal. Because the world doesn't really need more Sean Bean/Colin Farrell, but it sure is fun.

Cheaper By the Dozen (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/0613299043/qid=1087928274/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_3_1/702-2646682-2040049), because I read the book before they made the movie and the original is completely different and utterly charming. The original movie is better, too.

Playing By Heart (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0145734/) - based on a play called "Dancing About Architecture", but I guess the PTB figured people wouldn't understand that title. Idiots. I like ensemble movies, and although there are a couple of storylines in this I fast-forward (Jay Mohr's and Madeline Stowe's), the other storylines are engaging and so pretty.

Great Big Sea (http://www.greatbigsea.com/) (watch out, the site plays music) -- I like their older albums better, but they're still fantastic. Their live stuff is just as good if not better than the album versions!

Martha Stewart Living (http://www.marthastewart.com). I don't care how much they persecute her, I love the Martha. If nothing else, her site always looks clean and polished and the pictures are gorgeous.

[livejournal.com profile] cimarosa. Between your fascinating, loopy views on life and her offbeat pop culture links, I'm a very happy girl. *g*

No theories on the universe (which we all know balances on the back of a giant turtle), but here are two websites I like: Like A Good Book (http://www.femgeeks.net/goodbook/), which is varied and fun and has ginchy links, and you like it (http://youlike.twinners.org/), which is my sister's Harry Potter slash art page. If you're not into the HP slash, she also does HP gen at Every Flavour (http://doyourthing.org/glock/). I'm not much of an HP girl and I still enjoy the pictures, but then, I'm biased. *g*

OMG you did one (or more!) of each!! plus Martha Stewart!

*is dead from overwhelmedness*

but thank you! (I'll throw some back yourways in a wee while as soon as I think some up. *cough*)

(Also *sshhh* I'm really all about the HP slash on the sly, so I already know of & love the Sister's art, which is, I agree, very enjoyable.)

i cannot do that many recs at a time! i cannot. but, still, this:

fic, CGB's little Daria ditty (http://www.mandysbitch.com/fic/chris_full.html) is still as wonderfully tiny and off-beat as ever, I think.

book, if you're not one of one of those people who get hives just thinking about Woody Allen, his complete prose (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0330328212/qid=1088699938/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_11_1/026-2914731-5742833) has its moments. Especially the detective stories.

movie, this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117905/) with the ever-lovely Maggie Cheung, and, yes. The story's very very simple but oddly lovable.

and, my personal favourite amongst all the theories on why the universe is the way it is (http://www.jlake.com/genre.html). (Though which one it is, I'm not sure.)

for now. :)
