things past

I’m so tired.
This would have been Thursday’s entry, had I gotten around to posting it:
Got out of bed. Fainted out cold. Had breakfast until noon. Went to seminar.
People present without a topic for the seminar paper: 1.
Possible topics suggested to me: Depictions of Budapest in the works of [name of any contemporary Hungarian author]. Reception of contemporary Hungarian literature in Finland.
Topics I have ideas for: 0.
Stopped by (again) at the bakery where the sales assistant (who’s quite possibly somewhat obscenely young) always gives me this amazing big quasi-shy definitively flirty smile and I give one back and then go away feeling nourished and all fuzzy inside. Because it’s a drug. Finally got reading list for sci-fi/fantasy course.
(including but not necessarily limited to) Richard Adams; Apuleius; Peter S. Beagle; Stefano Benni; Ray Bradbury; Marion Z. Bradley; Flann O’Brien; Lewis Carrol; Susan Cooper; David Eddings; Neil Gaiman; Robert Holdstock; R.E. Howard; Ursula K. Le Guin; C.S. Lewis; H.P. Lovecraft; Anne McCaffrey; Michael Moorcock; Tim Powers; Terry Pratchett; Philip Pullman; J.K. Rowling; Lucius Shephard; Clark Ashton Smith; J.R.R. Tolkien; Jack Vance; Diana Wynne Jones; Anne Rice; Bram Stoker; any science fiction writer whose work has been translated into Finnish, because, yes, he has read them all. (Why haven’t I read them all?)
This would have been yesterday’s entry, had I gotten around to posting it:
Have issues with people assuming that literary studies are primarily a method of sublimation thought up by failed writers. Is all.
And today I’d be talking about canon-schmanon, if I wasn’t so tired. But maybe I’ll get to that on Sunday. When IKEA isn’t open. (I’m developing an orange theme for this flat. It scares me.) When IKEA isn’t open and I’m not hung over.
Anysmays. Gonna go look for some Freud/Lacan AU!RPS now, I think.
